Acne

Have you been diagnosed with acne through a face to face consultation with a doctor?

Have you successfully used Oxytetracycline to treat acne before?

Do you know Oxytetracycline antibiotic tablets should not be taken whilst using Zineryt or other topical antibiotics?

Do you know it usually takes 8 weeks or more of continuous usage for treatments to work?

Do you know if acne has cleared-up, treatment can sometimes be stopped or reduced after 4 to 6 months?

Do you agree to see your GP if your acne is scarring or getting worse?

Are you aware of an allergy or hypersensitivity to Oxytetracycline or any of its ingredients?

Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?

Do you agree to consult your doctor in the following circumstances? 

• If your symptoms change or get worse.
• If your acne causes scarring.
• If your acne is causing you to feel depressed.
• If you experience any side effects from your treatment.

Do you take any of the following medicines: 

• Penicillin (or other related antibiotics such as amoxicillin).
• Vitamin A.
• Retinoids (such as isotretinoin to treat acne).
• Anticoagulants (such as warfarin).
• Diuretics (water tablets such as furosemide).
• Diabetes treatments (such as insulin and glibenclamide).
• Ergotamine or methysergide.

Do you suffer from any of the following: 

• Myasthenia gravis.
• Porphyria.
• Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
• Renal impairment (kidney problems)
• Diabetes
• Galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption

Do you understand that: 

• Oxytetracycline can reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill. You should use condoms whilst taking Oxytetracycline and for 7 days after you finish.
• Oxytetracycline should be taken on an empty stomach, this is usually one hour before food or two hours after food.

Do you agree with the following: I am aware that I should only take antibiotics when necessary and that I should finish my course of treatment. Taking antibiotics when you don't need them can mean they won't work when they're really needed.
