Overview

Contraceptive pills are a small tablet containing oestrogen and progesterone hormone, which are taken as a reliable precaution to prevent pregnancy.

This method of birth control is used by millions of women worldwide as an oral alternative to using other birth control methods.

Causes

The number one reason women choose to use a contraceptive pill is to not get pregnant. It could be because they are not ready to have children or because they are not committed to having a child with the opposite member of sex.

Risks

Mild side effects associated with taking the contraceptive pill include nausea, tender breasts, missed periods, weight gain, headaches and decreased sexual drive.
