Migraine

Have your migraines recently worsened and do you experience migraines for more than 10 days a month?

Does the onset of your migraines follow a similar pattern?

Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms? 

• Double vision
• Unilateral motor weakness (muscle weakness down one side of the body)
• Neck stiffness 
• Neurological symptoms, such as reduced consciousness
• Uncoordinated movement
• Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
• Skin rash
• Migraines that are unresponsive to normal treatment

Are you taking any of the following medications: 

• Other migraine medication (e.g. ergotamine, methysergide or any triptan such as naratriptan, rizatriptan, zolmitriptan)
• Anti-depressants: MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) or if you have taken an MAOI in the last 2 weeks
• Anti-depressants: SSRIs used to treat depression (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors)
• Anti-depressants: SNRIs used to treat depression (serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors)
• St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
• Cimetidine (for indigestion or stomach ulcers)
• Propranolol (beta-blocker)
• Antibiotics
• The combined oral contraceptive pill (not the progesterone only mini pill)

Have you been diagnosed with migraines by your GP?

Have you taken migraine medication before and experienced relief?

Do you have a history of any of these conditions or related conditions below? 

• Heart: 

  • Coronary vasospasm
  • Ischaemic heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Previous heart attack (myocardial infarction, MI) 
  • Heart failure
  • Prinzmetal's angina
  • Arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation (AF), or any other cardiac accessory conduction pathway pathology, e.g. Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
• Circulatory:

  • Peripheral Vascular Disease

  • Cramp like pains in legs, particularly when walking

• Cerebrovascular:

  • Stroke or mini-stroke

  • Cerebrovascular accident (CVA)

  • Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA)

  • Or any other cardiovascular disease or history of cardiovascular disease.

Do you have any of the following conditions? 

• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Epilepsy or a tendency to seizures (fits)

Are you aged between 18 to 65 years?

Are you allergic to any of the following medications? 

• Sulphonamides 
• Triptan or migraine medicines such as; 
  • Sumatriptan (Imigran)
  • Rizatriptan (Maxalt)
  • Zolmitriptan (Zomig)
  • Ergotamine

Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?

Do you smoke or using nicotine replacement therapy?
